Estimate the cost of closing a certificate of deposit before maturity.
What this is: A rough CD early-withdrawal penalty estimator. Banks define penalties differently, so use this as a ballpark and verify the exact penalty with your bank before closing a CD early.

How to read the result
The penalty is usually based on interest, not principal. For example, a six-month penalty on a $100,000 CD paying 4.25% is roughly six months of interest, or about $2,125. Some banks can invade principal if the CD has not earned enough interest yet.
Before you act: Ask the bank for a written payoff amount. This calculator does not know your bank's compounding method, promotional terms, or special penalty rules.
