Assured Life Association

Assured Life Association, formerly known as Woodmen of the World, was officially renamed on January 1, 2015. The company, based in Denver, Colorado, was established by the same founder as Modern Woodmen of America and Woodmen of the World in 1890. Presently, Assured Life Association operates independently from these organizations. The association is characterized as a non-profit Life Insurer, with a business model focusing on returning revenues to its member customers via benefits including educational scholarships, summer camp grants for the youth, and discounts on various products and services. The association also runs a member-influenced matching charitable giving program and promotes four national community service projects among Society member customers every year.

Formed after internal disagreements within the Modern Woodmen which had been established by Joseph Root in 1883, Assured Life Association underwent a series of mergers and expansions beginning from 1960s, absorbing several smaller insurance agencies. Today, the company is permitted to do business in 37 states. Several organizations that have merged with Assured Life Association include Pike’s Peak Mutual Benefit Association, Supreme Camp of American Woodmen, and the Danish Brotherhood in America.

Assured Life Association admits women to membership and had a reported membership of 22,000 in 1994. Local units are referred to as “camps” and partake in numerous recreational and social activities. The organization has extended financial aid and material support to its needy members, granted scholarships, offered assistance to Korean and Vietnamese refugees, and donated to hospitals.
