National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) is an American insurance company based in Madison, Wisconsin. It was formed in 1910 and operates as an independent mutual life insurance company. NGL is licensed to do business in 49 states and the District of Columbia. The company received an A− (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best in 2011. NGL offers pre-need (funeral) insurance, final expense life insurance, and group market benefits such as vision and dental products. The company was initially founded under the name The Wisconsin State Life Insurance Company and later changed its name to Guardian Life Insurance Company in 1910. It added “National” to its name in 1920. Over the years, NGL has made several acquisitions and entered into alliances to expand its business. As of 2015, NGL held $3.8 billion in total assets and $3.5 billion in liabilities. In 2021, NGL Insurance Group’s A.M. Best Rating was upgraded to an A rating.
