Royal Neighbors of America is a life insurance company targeted towards women. The company was initially organized in 1888 by a group of eight women in response to a notice posted in a local newspaper by Marie Kirkland. In 1894, it was decided to incorporate the company in the state of Illinois. By March 21, 1895, Royal Neighbors of America was officially chartered as a Fraternal Benefit Society. The initial offices were located in Peoria, IL, before moving to Rock Island, IL in 1908. In 1931, the society opened the Royal Neighbors of America National Home in Davenport, Iowa to assist women in their organization who needed help. However, the facility was closed in 2004 and sold in 2006.
