In 1999, it became an independent subsidiary of multinational company Aegon. Transamerica was founded in October 1904 by A.P. Giannini. It offers a variety of insurance and financial services, including term life, whole life, universal life, variable universal life, accidental death, Medicare supplement, and long-term care insurance policies. It also offers a variety of mutual funds and annuities. Transamerica has over 15,000 licensed insurance agents in the state of California alone.
