Our Editorial Goals & Processes

Our Editorial Goals & Processes

Thousands of people visit our website every day, primarily from search engines.  It’s pretty clear what they want:

Our website visitors want accurate information or quality advice (opinions that are well-informed and unbiased).

Is that what you’ll get on this site?  The point of this page is to give you context for this question.  We’ll share this site’s “why” and “how”, and then you can decide.

Our Goals (The “Why”)

We’re not going to insult your intelligence with fluffy half-truths.  We’re a business.  Our ultimate goal is to make money.

How Most Content Publishers Make Money

Most websites that publish insurance content make money in two ways:

  1. They show ads alongside their content
  2. They steer traffic to third-party insurance companies that pay them for doing so

You’ve probably come across some of these websites: Investopedia, Nerdwallet, Value Penguin, The Balance, Business Insider, and many others.

What’s wrong with these options?  They make money at the reader’s expense: (1) ads are distracting and potentially misleading, and (2) referral partnerships always lead to biased advice.

What Makes Us Different

Unlike the above websites, we have a third way to make money, which aligns our interests perfectly with our readers’ needs.

We are a licensed, independent life and health insurance agency, so we can make money by selling insurance policies.  And the reality is:

People buy financial products from businesses they trust.  If we want to do business with you, we have to earn your trust first.

This website is the first impression we make on our potential customers (and often the second, third, fourth, etc. impression).  If we publish biased, inaccurate, or otherwise low-quality content, we will lose your trust.  We hope it’s now clear that:

Our business interests strongly incentivize us to provide our readers (potential customers) with accurate, unbiased, and high-quality content.

Our Editorial Process (The “How”)

This section will explain how we go about producing content in a way that ensures accuracy and editorial independence.

Our Content Is Well-Informed and Accurate

Our CEO, Rikin Shah, is responsible for all of the content on getsure.org.  He is a licensed life and health insurance agent with over ten years of experience in the insurance industry — as an investor, an employee of a carrier, and an agent.

His informational content and opinions are based on a mix of personal experience, authoritative sources (cited at the end of each article), and, where needed, consultations with third-party experts.

Before publishing, we use third-party fact-checkers to vet our content for accuracy, timeliness, and relevance.

Finally, while rare, we do make errors.  When this happens, we immediately post a correction to the relevant article.  If you find a mistake (or have a suggestion), don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Our Opinions Are Independent

Our website is 100% free of ads and our only business partnerships are with the insurance carriers whose policies we sell.

Therefore, we do not have financial incentives that risk biasing our advice.

Conclusion

We hope this gave you a better sense of who GetSure is and how we approach producing content for this site.
